Araria: Fourth additional district judge Rabi Kumar on Wednesday sentenced one Baiju Murmu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of killing a woman, Sakunia Devi, on Oct 21, 2022, in Lahtora village under the Araria police station area. Murmu had used an unlicensed firearm to commit the crime.The case was based on an FIR lodged by the victim’s son, Arbind Kumar. Following the complaint, police conducted an investigation, found the allegations to be true and submitted a chargesheet against Murmu in the trial court.After evaluating the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defence and hearing both sides at length, judge Rabi Kumar found Murmu guilty of murdering Sakunia Devi using a firearm and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a monetary penalty.

Additional public prosecutor Prabha Kumari said, “The convict shot Sakunia from behind with a country-made pistol. She died on the spot.”In addition to the life sentence, the court also imposed a further three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 under the Arms Act. Both sentences will run concurrently, the court ordered.
