Aravindh Chithambaram beat compatriot R. Praggnanandhaa in tiebreaks to win the Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2025 tournament on Friday in Jermuk, Armenia.
At the end of the round-robin stage consisting of 10 players in the classical event, both the Indians were joint-first with 6.5 points. This forced the title into a tie-break decider.
In the final round, Aravindh – playing with black pieces – beat local player Aram Hakobyan. On the other hand, Praggnanandhaa – playing with white – beat another local player in Robert Hovhannisyan.
