NEW DELHI: Army troops fired warning shots after detecting suspicious movement of two groups of infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, early Monday morning.
Despite the heightened alert, no direct exchange of fire occurred, and a massive search operation is now underway in both regions.
According to officials, the first incident occurred around 1:30 am in the Battal sector of Akhnoor on the outskirts of Jammu. Alert troops noticed suspicious activity involving three to four individuals and responded by illuminating the area with flares and deploying drones for surveillance. Reinforcements were quickly mobilized to establish a tight cordon around the area, and a search operation commenced at first light.
Simultaneously, troops in the Sunderbani-Nowshera sector of Rajouri district detected suspicious movement around 12:30 am and fired a few warning rounds. This area is also being combed as part of a broader effort to secure the LoC and prevent any possible infiltration.
The heightened security measures come on the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have significantly increased security across the region to manage any potential unrest or security threats associated with the anniversary.
The ongoing search operations are focused on ensuring that no infiltrators have crossed the border and to maintain the integrity of the LoC. The Indian Army remains on high alert in light of the current security situation and the anniversary’s significance.
Security forces are coordinating closely with local intelligence agencies to address any emerging threats and ensure the safety of the region. The situation remains under close monitoring as the search efforts continue.
