Arvind Kejriwal Bail Live Updates: The Supreme Court granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday in connection with the excise policy case. The court set bail at Rs 10 lakhs and imposed a condition that Kejriwal must not make any public comments regarding the case.
The decision was made by a bench led by Justice Surya Kant, which also included Justice Ujjal Bhuyan. During the hearing, Justice Bhuyan raised concerns about the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), questioning why it occurred when he was close to being granted bail. He described the CBI’s actions as potentially aimed at frustrating the bail process.
Justice Bhuyan stressed the legal principle that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, stating that bail should be the norm and imprisonment the exception. He rebuked the CBI for arguing against bail solely based on Kejriwal’s evasive responses during questioning.
Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26 as part of an investigation into alleged corruption related to the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22. The Delhi High Court had previously upheld his arrest, but the Supreme Court’s ruling today allowed him to be released while the case continues.
