Tamilnadu Astronomy and Science Society (TASS) is set to host Youth Astronomy and Science Congress (YASC) in a bid to foster scientific temperament among the youth.

The event will serve as a platform for students, researchers, and aspiring astronomers to discuss ground-breaking discoveries and engage with experts in the field of astronomy. It will be conducted on a regional and State level.

Presentation of research papers, poster designing, development of space-related games, astrophotography, among other activities will be hosted at the event. It will also feature interactive sessions, hands-on workshops, and lectures by experts. This will provide an opportunity to the youth to network with leading astronomers and scientists.

“We are witnessing an alarming decline in the number of students taking up science streams during the course of their higher secondary education. We hope to increase this number by creating an interest in science and introducing various scientific thought through the Youth Astronomy and Science Congress. This will enable the emergence of a group of curious and capable researchers and scientists,” said G. Ramesh, president, Tamilnadu Astronomy and Science Society.

Registrations for YASC commenced from the first week of March, followed by an online orientation programme held on the fourth week. An interim online workshop will be conducted on second week of April.

The final date for submissions of projects is in the fourth week of May.

The regional-level congress is set to take place in the fourth week of June in Tiruchi while the venue is yet to be decided for the State-level congress to be held in the third week of July.
