NEW DELHI: Devendra Yadav, chief of the Delhi Congress, criticized the appointment of Atishi as the new chief minister of Delhi, stating that her tenure is only for three months.
Yadav accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of failing to keep its promises and expressed confidence that Congress will form the government in Delhi in 2025.
“I extend best wishes to the new chief minister and I am hopeful that the problems of the public of Delhi will be resolved. The AAP government cannot run away from the promises that they made after the formation of their government…She has become the Chief Minister for just three months. AAP has been exposed in front of the public, Congress will form its Chief Minister in 2025,” Yadav told ANI.
Kejriwal is set to resign at 4:30 pm today and Atishi is likely to take the oath as his successor.
Kejriwal announced his resignation on Sunday, stating he would not resume as CM until the people of Delhi declared him ‘honest.’
He called for advancing the polls in the national capital to November this year, ahead of the scheduled February elections.
Kejriwal’s announcement came two days after his release from Tihar jail following bail granted by the Supreme Court in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam.
The court imposed conditions on his release, requiring him to refrain from public comments about the case and to attend all hearings before the trial court unless exempted.
