NEW DELHI: Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday claimed that during the previous BJD government‘s regime, an attempt was made on his life by hurling bombs. While addressing a public meeting at Jhumpura in his home district Keonjhar, he said that he was saved due to divine intervention and the love of the people.
“There was an attempt to kill me in a bomb blast in Keonjhar’s Mandua.However, I was saved due to God’s blessings and the love of people,” he said.
The chief minister, who is a senior BJP leader, asserted his faith in the protection of various deities, saying, “I have nothing to fear when Maa Tarini, Maa Durga, Lord Baladev and Lord Jagannath are with me.”
During his visit to Keonjhar, Majhi held a roadshow and attended a rally where he was felicitated. He also paid visits to the temples of Maa Tarini, Baladev Jew, and Lord Jagannath. Highlighting his accessibility as the people’s CM, he invited citizens to meet him directly in Bhubaneswar if needed.
Majhi, who fondly recalled his childhood days of visiting the weekly market at Jhumpura with his mother, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made in the BJP manifesto. His priorities include providing Rs 3,100 per quintal of paddy as MSP from the Kharif season and offering Rs 50,000 to every eligible woman under the Subhadra Yojana.
Recognizing Keonjhar’s wealth of natural resources, the chief minister shared his vision of building a prosperous “sunehra (golden) Kanojhar”.
The BJP’s victory in the recent assembly polls marked the formation of the first BJP government in Odisha, ending the BJD’s 24-year reign. Majhi, a 52-year-old Santali tribe member from Keonjhar district, has had a long political career, serving as a sarpanch and being elected to the state assembly multiple times. In the recent polls, he retained his seat by defeating BJD’s Mina Majhi.
As the leader of the BJP legislature party in Odisha, Majhi has pledged to prioritize the protection of Odisha’s ‘Asmita’ (pride) under the new government.
