With its Constitution and a strong democratic system, India can become ‘viswaguru’ (global leader) and the youth should always be at the forefront of upholding democracy, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.

Flagging off a rally from the old Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Wednesday (June 25), to mark 50 years of Emergency, the Collector called upon the youth to ensure that democracy flourishes in the country.

“Let us join hands for strengthening of democracy. It is our responsibility to protect all the values enshrined in the Constitution,” he said.

State Cultural Department Director R. Mallikarjuna Rao said that to mark half a century of Emergency, special programmes explaining the importance of democractic values would be held for a year from June 25. NTR District Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu also was present in the programme.
