LUCKNOW: Amid the celestial glow and devotional zeal, a quieter tale stirs under Ayodhya Dham’s soil. Burdened by tangled overhead cable, the town was yearning for a transformation. So back in 2021, MVVNL launched a mega Rs 190 crore project, whose focus was to lay down every wire hanging in the five-km circumference of Ram temple, under the ground.
According to officials, over 800km-long power cables, including 407km-long low tension (LT) cables, 204km-long service (armoured) cables, 124km 33 kV and 62km 11 kV transmission cables, have been laid beneath the soil, giving a clear view of lanes heading to the temple.
‘Power infra to benefit 20k consumers around Ayodhya’
To illuminate Ayodhya, over 2,800 solar street lights, including 150 solar high masts, have been installed. Speaking to TOI, Harish Bansal, chief engineer of MVVNL Ayodhya zone, said, “All this infrastructure will benefit around 15,000 to 20,000 power consumers around Ayodhya. The project will further extend to other parts of Ayodhya district.” There are around 6,500 power consumers in Ayodhya.
He added, “It was Mercados Energy Markets India (MEMI) which charted the course for underground cabling after detailed survey, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions, while it was L&T which did the execution part.” According to the status report of MVVNL project for pran pratishtha ceremony, “Over 95% of work for laying 12.94km-long underground cable for 33 kV, 11 kV and LT line between Sahadatganj and Nayaghat (Rampath) has been completed.”
On Bhaktipat connecting Rampath to Hanumangadi and then to Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, a 0.742kmlong duct line has been constructed and an underground cable of 11 kV is being laid. For Dharmpath (Ayodhya bypass NH-27 to Saryu bridge), the discom has completed over 80 % underground cabling for 2 km for 33 kV and 11 kV power lines.
Further for Mahobra Marg which connects Ayodhya bypass NH-27, the discom and PWD in joint coordination have laid 1.36 km long cable. “We take immense pride in our small contribution to the historic development of Ayodhya that will be remembered by generations, by spearheading the underground electrification project, a crucial aspect of the Integrated Power Development Scheme,” said a statement from MEMI.
