NEW DELHI: The Mumbai court on Monday remanded Pravin Lonkar, the third suspect in the murder case of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, to seven days police custody until October 21. Lonkar was presented before the Esplanade Court following a medical examination earlier in the day.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Lonkar, 28, from Pune in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique on Sunday.
Siddique was shot multiple times outside his office in Nirmal Nagar and was immediately taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night.
Lonkar, the arrested suspect, is the brother of Shubham Lonkar, who is also allegedly involved in the murder plot. According to officials, they recruited Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam to assist in the assassination of Siddique.
Earlier on Sunday, Siddique’s funeral was held with full state honors at Bada Qabrastan in Mumbai.
The Mumbai Police stated that the accused were hired to assassinate both Baba Siddiqui and his son Zeeshan Siddiqui.
During questioning, the accused revealed that they were instructed to shoot either Zeeshan or Baba Siddiqui, whoever they encountered. It was also reported that Zeeshan, had received threats several days prior to the incident.
