Pressure and Comparisons: Sutapa’s Concern for Babil Khan
Sutapa Sikdar expressed deep concern about the intense pressure her son faces and stated, “There’s a lot of pressure on Babil, and I am not okay with it. This pressure should not be there, Irrfan never had that pressure and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out. It’s not only about work but also about losing the father figure, he is almost in depression.”
Sutapa Compares Babil’s Struggles to Abhishek Bachchan’s Journey
Sutapa Sikdar further compared her son’s struggles to those faced by Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who, despite carving out a successful career, has often found himself under the shadow of his legendary father, Amitabh Bachchan. She explained, “Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk but wahi hai…comparisons with legendary Amitabh Bachchan have worked against him. I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon.”
A Mother’s Plea for Space and Understanding
Sutapa’s poignant words highlighted a mother’s plea for understanding, urging the industry and fans to let Babil Khan carve his own niche in the world of cinema. She added, “I just hope he overcomes it soon.”
Babil Khan’s Journey After Irrfan Khan’s Death
Irrfan Khan’s death in 2020 after a prolonged battle with a neuroendocrine tumour left an indelible void in the film industry and deeply affected his family. Babil was also seen in the series The Railway Men, where he shared screen space with actors like R Madhavan and Kay Kay Menon. He is set to appear next in Shoojit Sircar’s production, The Umesh Chronicles.
