BHUBANESHWAR: Four Aditya Birla Group companies donated Rs 240 crore through EBs to Naveen Patnaik-led BJD in Odisha, data revealed. BJD received a total of Rs 944 crore in donations via bonds, which was revealed earlier this month.
While the Mumbai-headquartered group’s Essel Mining and Industries Ltd donated more than Rs 170 crore to BJD, Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL) gave close to Rs 70 crore, among the top donors. UAIL has a 2.12 MTPA alumina refinery in Rayagada district and captive bauxite mines of 8 MTPA and a 90MW captive power plant. It is planning a second refinery in Rayagada district with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore, the foundation stone of which was laid by the Odisha CM last Dec.
Grasim Industries and Ultra Tech together donated more than Rs 20 crore.
Naveen Jindal-led Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), which has purchased Rs 123 crore worth of EBs for various parties, donated around Rs 100 crore to BJD alone. JSPL has a 6 MTPA integrated steel plant in Angul and the company is in the process of doubling capacity, information shared on the company website shows.
Odisha-based SN Mohanty Group gave at leastRs 45 crore to BJD; it has donated a total of Rs 45 crore via EBs spread across parties. Rungta Mines gave the Naveen-led party Rs 50 crore while Jindal Stainless Ltd, led by Ratan Jindal, gave it Rs 29 crore. Vedanta Group has given Rs 32 crore to BJD.
Among others, Odisha native mining companies KJS Ahluwalia (Rs 4 crore), Indrani Patnaik (Rs 3 crore) and Sarosh Alizah (Rs 2.5 crore) are donors to BJD. MKJ Enterprises (Rs 10 crore) and DS Engineering (Rs 5 crore) are also donors.
