The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party have issued a ‘three line whip’ notice for all its Lok Sabha members of parliament (MPs), urging them to be present in lower house on December 13 and 14, 2024 during the scheduled debate on the Constitution of India.

The Congress party has issued three line whip to their Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the house on December 13, and 14.

The debate on the Constitution is scheduled for two days in both Houses of Parliament – December 13-14 in the Lok Sabha and December 16-17 in the Rajya Sabha.

Union home minister Amit Shah is likely to initiate the debate in the Rajya Sabha. BJP chief JP Nadda and Union defence minister Rajnath Singh are also expected to participate in the debate in their houses, respectively. Union health minister Nadda is the leader of house in the Rajya Sabha, while Singh is ruling BJP’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.

By deploying the entire top brass for the debate, the BJP is keen that the Parliament functions and takes on the opposition on key issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to reply on Constitution debate in Lok Sabha on December 14, according to the sources.

TheWinter Session of Parliamentthat began on November 25 will run till December 20.

Members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have agreed to hold a debate on the Indian Constitution next week, following a series of disrupted parliamentary sessions. The breakthrough was achieved during an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Om Birla last week.

“It is not good to disrupt parliamentary proceedings. We appeal to all Opposition leaders to honour the agreement and ensure Parliament functions smoothly from tomorrow,” Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, urging all members to uphold decorum during the session.
