The formation of the new BJP government in Delhi is unlikely to take place before February 15 – until Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his official visit to the United States, top sources within the party said on Sunday.

PM Modi will be on the US visit on February 12 and 13, becoming one of the world leaders to visit Washington DC in the first month of Donald Trump’s second presidency.

According to sources, the BJP will have a grand swearing-in ceremony in which all top NDA leaders and Chief Ministers will be invited.

The BJP scripted a historic return to power in Delhi after 27 years, winning 48 seats in the 70-seated Assembly, while cutting short the ruling Aam Aadmi Party from 62 seats in 2020 to 22 seats in 2025 polls.

The BJP’s election campaign was led by PM Modi and the party played it like in the previous state elections, not announcing the CM candidate and deciding the Chief Minister after the poll victory.

Now that the BJP has won the Delhi Elections, brainstorming over the party’s face to lead the government is likely to begin soon.

Some names have surfaced in the political circles which are being speculated to be the front-runners in the race.

Who Are Front-Runners For Delhi CM Post?

Parvesh Verma, who ended the winning streak of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency, is the front-runner for the top job.

Another name that is doing the rounds is Bansuri Swaraj. She is a first-time MP of the BJP and the daughter of veteran BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. She is the sitting MP from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat which was once held by towering BJP leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani.

Smriti Irani is speculated to be another BJP leader to be in the race. She is a giant-killer who defeated Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 from Amethi, before being defeated in the 2024 general elections. She had campaigned for the party in the Delhi polls.
