Bharatiya Janata Party State senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take immediate steps to address the grievances of evacuees of Nrusimhasagar Reservoir project in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. He alleged that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had neglected them.

In a statement, Mr. Reddy highlighted that the R&R package for the reservoir oustees has been pending for over five years despite court directives in May last year to settle the R&R package with ₹600 crore.

The BJP leader reminded that the 11 TMC capacity Nrusimhasagar reservoir, constructed in Baswapur village, was planned to supply water to tanks in the erstwhile combined Nalgonda district. Land acquisition for the project began in 2019, displacing thousands of farmers, he said.

However, while the reservoir’s construction has been completed, the compensation and resettlement for the evacuees remain unresolved. He pointed out that although ₹400 crore was allocated by the government for compensating farmers and resettling evacuees, the funds have not been disbursed to all affected families. Furthermore, ₹45 crore set aside by the Congress government for the evacuees was not fully distributed.

Many oustees, he said, remain homeless, and the proposed layout for their rehabilitation lacks basic amenities and housing.

He also expressed disappointment that the project is yet to impound water from Kondapochamma Sagar and Ranganayakula Sagar, and the promised Godavari water has not reached the tanks.
