West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram temple in Ayodhya
On the day of ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony at the new Ram temple in Ayodhya, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of “saffronising everything”. “Ramakrishna will remain but some people will sell the country for votes,” the TMC chief said. Banerjee’s statement came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The TMC chief also said that the BJP “is anti-women” as it talks about Lord Ram but not about Goddess Sita. “They “(BJP) talk about Lord Ram, but what about Goddess Sita? She was all along with Lord Ram during his exile. They don’t speak about her as they are anti-women,”- Banerjee, who led the TMC’s ‘Sanhati Rally’ earlier in the day, said. “We are worshippers of Goddess Durga, so they should not try to lecture us about religion,” she added.
Banerjee further alleged that the BJP is dividing Hindu votes by funding and supporting some Muslim leaders “who are actually puppets of the party”.
Speaking at the rally, Banerjee said, “I don’t care who worships whom. I have a problem with the unemployment in the country. Where has the country’s money gone?…”
On the other hand, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was quoted by ANI as saying, “Today is a proud day for Bengal. While the whole country is engaged in a religious program, the people of Bengal are standing together on the road, praying for peace. Bengal does not do politics of religion, we have only one religion, and that is- service should be provided to all.”
The West Bengal CM also backed his nephew Abhishek’s “won’t accept mandir built on dead bodies” remarks.
On Sunday evening, on the eve of the consecration ceremony of new Ram temple in Ayodhya, the TMC leader took to his X account and wrote, “My RELIGION has not taught me to accept and embrace a place of worship, whether it be a MANDIR, MASJID, CHURCH or GURUDWARA, which has been built over HATRED, VIOLENCE and the dead bodies of innocents. Period!”
