Among the many familiar faces will be celebs who have played the role of Lord Ram on the big screen and in popular television shows. While it is a known fact that several Indian actors have taken on the role of Lord Ram, not many know that even Hollywood star Bryan Cranston, best known for his role in the hit series ‘Breaking Bad’ also took on the role of the Hindu god.
Back in 2001, Brian lent his voice to Lord Ram for an animated film titled ‘The Prince of Light: The Legend of Ramayana.’
When the Japanese film was released in the US, Cranston recounted his experience voicing the character. He said that he enjoyed the storytelling process and admitted that it was ‘very challenging’ to only use his voice as opposed to being on camera.
Originally produced in 1992 as ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama,’ the film was reportedly a collaboration between India and Japan. The movie saw its release in three dubbed versions, including Hindi, featuring Arun Govil as the voice of Lord Ram, Namrata Sawhney as Sita, Shakti Singh as Lakshman, Dilip Sinha as Hanuman, and the legendary Amrish Puri as Raavan.
However, when the decision was made to release the film in the United States with an English dubbed version titled ‘The Prince of Light: The Legend of Ramayana,’ Bryan Cranston was chosen to voice the lead character, Lord Ram. The film also included narration by James Earl Jones, known for his iconic role as the voice of Mufasa in ‘The Lion King.’
Meanwhile, back in Bollywood, buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor has already begun prep to play lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of the Ramayana. Other mythological films in the works include Deepika Padukone’s ‘Mahabharat,’ and Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Ayodhya.’
