In a big win for Bilkis Bano, the Supreme Court of India has quashed Gujarat Govt’s remission order. All the 11 convicts involved in rape of Bilkis Bano, murder of her family to return to jail. The Supreme Court observed, “The State, where an offender is tried and sentenced, is competent to decide the remission plea of convicts. Gujarat govt had usurped the power of the Maharashtra govt by deciding the remission plea of convicts in the Bilkis Bano case as it is the Maharashtra govt that has jurisdiction to decide remission.”
