Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and his associates were booked for criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, public nuisance and rioting by the West Zone police of Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The case was booked after the MLA obstructed the vehicle of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Banjara Hills police and allegedly threatened him.
In an official statement on the issue, DCP of West Zone SM Vijay Kumar said that at around 3 p.m., when the SHO was leaving the police station on an emergency work, P. Kaushik Reddy and his supporters suddenly came near his vehicle.
“They demanded him to get down and stopped the movement of his vehicle by parking another car in front of it. The officer, caught unaware at the happenings, informed them that he is on emergency duty and that they can submit their grievance to Admin Sub-Inspector at the PS or wait for his return. However, Kaushik Reddy and his supporters, besides obstructing the officer’s vehicle, started abusing him and threatening him,” said the DCP.
As the situation was going out of control, the SHO stepped out and called them to his office and heard their grievance.
“He could not attend his official duties on the field. Even inside the office, Kaushik Reddy and others resorted to abuses and threats at the officer. Based on the complaint given by the officer, a case has been registered under offences of unlawful assembly, using force for obstructing the duties of a public servant, criminal intimidation; wrongful restraint, public nuisance and rioting against P Kaushik Reddy and others,” said the DCP, adding that investigation is under progress and action as per law will be taken against Kaushik Reddy and others.
Kaushik Reddy, an MLA from the Huzurabad constituency, was at the police station to file a complaint accusing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of phone tapping. In his letter to the police, Reddy expressed the suspicion that his phone calls were being illegally monitored and accused the Chief Minister and Inspector General Shivadhar Reddy of involvement in the alleged activity. He described the issue as grave infringement on his personal privacy and fundamental rights.
