Foundation Day celebrations of the BJP and raising awareness on One Nation One Election was the focus of national president JP Nadda’s video conference meeting with party MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, on Monday.

Nadda discussed vital issues concerning the BJP. The detailed programme for the entire week beginning April 6 has been given to party MPs, including the celebrations ending on April 14, which is the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar.

According to sources, the biggest push by him is on building consensus for legislation like One Nation One Election (ONOE), which is currently being examined by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC). While the committee is summoning witnesses for this, it is the public that is the largest stakeholder and must be taken into confidence, he has said.

Several BJP leaders, including union ministers, have been holding gatherings to educate the public about the benefits of this legislation and how it will help. As per the available report with the BJP, so far, more than 300 programmes have been conducted across India. Constitutional authorities in the past, like former vice president M Venkaiah Naidu, have also taken part in some conferences to highlight the benefit of this poll reform.

It has been learnt that the BJP will like consensus being built across society, including holding debates and discussions with students in schools and colleges, professionals, homemakers, senior citizens and celebrities alike.

On behalf of the party, general secretary Sunil Bansal will be coordinating these meetings while it will be managed by Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the central government.

The sources said the national president has reiterated to the MPs the importance of the foundation day of the BJP, which is the world’s largest party. Among other programmes given to them, it is important for each of them to install the party flag in their homes and offices. Members have also been advised to share pictures or selfies on social media, so that other party workers can be inspired.

This year, the Centre has notified that Ambedkar’s birth anniversary will be a gazetted holiday and, a day before, all MPs will be required to light a lamp at his statue in their constituencies. On the day of the birth anniversary, they will be interacting with people from the backward classes.

They need to drive home the point about work done by the Narendra Modi-led government to give Ambedkar his due credit, the sources said. The leaders will also be going to Dalit settlements and interacting with residents to distribute sweets and understand if they need to enrol in any welfare schemes, they added.

The sources further said all leaders have been told to drive home the point that this government works for the welfare of all strata of society. From supporting legislation, like ONOE to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, this party has constantly worked towards big infrastructure projects right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, they said.

They also said the party has a distinct reputation of providing due credit to unsung heroes and freedom fighters, which has never happened before. The victories that the party has been able to register in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi as well as many local body elections, including in Gujarat and Telangana, are proof that the public has faith in Modi’s leadership.
