LUDHIANA: The car of Ludhiana district president for the Congress Party, Sanjay Talwar, who is also a former MLA for the Congress Party from the Ludhiana East constituency, was hit by a bullet on Saturday. Talwar’s Toyota Innova was parked outside his house in Janpath Estate near the South City area, and the bullet hit the side window of the back seat.
While speaking with TOI, District Congress president Sanjay Talwar said, “My car was parked outside the house on Friday at around 7.30 PM.On Saturday at around 9.15 AM, when my driver and gunmen went out to take the car, they noticed the broken window of the car. They informed me about it, and further, the police were called.”
“As the police reached the spot, they frisked the car to see how the window was broken. During this, they found a hole in the car seat, and on searching, they recovered a bullet from inside the hole,” he added.
On asking if they suspect anyone of deliberately hitting his car, Talwar said, “I don’t know if it was a deliberate attack or an accidental fire. The police are probing into the matter.”
Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary, SHO at Sarabha Nagar Police Station, said, “The police have scanned the CCTVs installed near the spot and the entrance of the Janpath Estate; however, the entry of no suspect was captured. The preliminary investigation suggests that it was a fire in the air in which the bullet hit the car of the Congress leader.”
“Several farmhouses are located near the residence of the Congress leader. It is suspected that someone fired a gunshot from there in the air, which hit Talwar’s car. The police are also checking if any wedding or party was organised in the nearby location on Friday.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against unidentified accused under Section 125 (Act Endangering Life or Personal Safety of Others) of BNS and the Arms Act,” added Inspector Chaudhary.
