Bypoll Results Live: Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has won the Dehri bypolls. Congress candidate Thakur defeated Hoshyar Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by over 9000 votes, according to Election Commission of India.
In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mohinder Bhagat has won Jalandhar West bypoll. Bhagat defeated Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sheetal Angural by over 37000 votes, according to Election Commission of India.
Jalandhar West in Punjab and Dehri in Himachal Pradesh are two of the 13 seats across seven states that went to bypolls on July 10. The counting is underway for all 13 seats on July 13.
Overall, the INDIA bloc was leading in 11 of the 13 assembly seats, according to early trends of the counting. The eleven seats were INDIA bloc parties were leading in the bypolls are in West Bengal (4), Himachal Pradesh (2) Uttarakhand (2), Punjab (1), Madhya Pradesh (1) and Tamil Nadu (1), as per the early trends by poll panel.
The BJP was leading in only 1 of the 13 seats, according to early trends.
TMC ahead in all 4 seats of West Bengal
In West Bengal, ruling Trinamool Congress was leading in all four seats of West Bengal. These seats are Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda and Maniktala.
The Congress was ahead in both seats of Uttarakhand – Badrinath and Manglaur.

Apart from Dehri, the Congress was also ahead in Nalagarh seat in Himachal Pradesh. The BJP was, however, leading in Hamirpur seat in Himachal Pradesh. Hamirpur is the only seat among 13 where the BJP was ahead.
Independent Candidate Leading in Bihar
The Congress was also leading in Amarwara seat of Madhya Pradesh. The DMK was leading in the sole seat in Tamil Nadu, Vikravandi that went to the bypolls, by 11 am.
In Bihar’s Rupauli seat, independent candidate Shankar Singh was ahead in early trends.
Bypolls to these 13 assembly seats in seven states, held on July 10, were necessitated following vacancies created due to deaths or resignations of incumbent MLAs from different parties.
NDA Vs INDIA
The bypolls are seen as significant test for the opposition INDIA bloc as it faced off against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance(NDA) in first electoral battle after Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
The elections, the results of which was announced on June 4, saw the BJP falling short of majority and opposition INDIA bloc gaining strength. The BJP finally bagged 240 Lok Sabha seats – 32 short of the majority.
Narendra Modi took oath Prime Minister for the third record time as BJP-led NDA managed to cross the halfway mark of 272 with an overall 293 seats. The Congress-led INDIA bloc clinched 232 seats.
Of the 13 seats which went to the polls, the BJP, the Congress and the TMC had each held two, while one seat each was held by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Janata Dal (United), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Independents held the remaining three seats.
