A meeting of the State Cabinet to be convened in Belagavi on December 12 or 13 will discuss various important issues related to northern Karnataka including creating a separate urban local body for Dharwad city, H.K. Patil, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, told reporters in Hubballi on Saturday. To a query, he said that the Cabinet meeting would take a decision on the long pending demand of creating a separate city corporation for Dharwad.

He said that the BJP was making meaningless statements about the Congress session in Hassan. “Why should the BJP be worried about the Congress holding a session? Was it because it was successful? Was it because it has increased the popularity of the government? Or was it because it has further cemented the relationship between the senior leaders of the Congress or was it because it has strengthened the influence and appeal of the CM among the common masses,” asked Mr. Patil.

He said that the highest number of waqf property encroachment removal notices were issued by the BJP during its rule between 2019-2023, but it was making false allegations against the Congress government. “The people of the state will understand this and respond accordingly, he said.

“The department of law had prepared a draft of the bill on protecting the poor from delays in litigation by lending agencies like banks. We will present this either in the winter session in Belagavi or in the budget session in Bengaluru,” he said.
