NEW DELHI: The Calcutta high court on Wednesday ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into alleged crimes against women, forcible land-grabing in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali. The court has directed the CBI to file report on illegal conversion of agricultural land for pisciculture.
Sandeshkhali, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has become a focal point of political controversy for almost two months now.
The village was engulfed in widespread protests following accusations of sexual abuse leveled by numerous women against a local TMC leader, Sheikh Shahjahan, who was identified as the primary conspirator.
