Candidates are known to adopt unique campaign strategies ahead of elections. As the by-election in Rajasthan’s Dausa constituency draw closer, an independent candidate made a grand entrance by helicopter. However, to everyone’s surprise, he left without holding any meetings or addressing the public.
Seeing him, the villagers remarked, “Netaji came, but he did not even ask for votes. He left with his family in the helicopter.”
Independent candidate from Dausa Makhan Lal Meena was seen carrying his election symbol and a flute as he departed from the Circuit House. He boarded a helicopter hired for campaigning, accompanied by his family. After circling over Dausa city, he showered flowers from the air and proceeded towards the temple of Pyari Mata in Malwas village.
Upon reaching the temple, he hovered at a low altitude for a period, showering flowers upon the sacred site.
Upon arriving by helicopter at the temple, Meena was met by officials who insisted he sign some documents before proceeding.
Despite prior attempts to contact him, officials had been unable to reach the candidate. They seized this opportunity to approach him for his signature as soon as he disembarked.
The document was in English, prompting the candidate to call to his son, “What is this? Read it. It is written in English.” His son, however, was not sufficiently fluent in English to understand the document’s contents.
The officials assured the candidate that his signature was simply a formality, and he signed it. Only then was he permitted to continue towards the temple.
Meena visited the temple and paid respects to Piyali Mata with his family. Addressing the crowd on his way out, he said, “The meeting has not been allowed now, you have to go back. I will come again by helicopter and then I will do the work.”
However, the people insisted he address them. Reluctantly, he went on stage, accepted their greetings, and promptly returned to his helicopter.
When Local18 spoke to the locals, one of them said, “Netaji had come by helicopter; his family members were also with him. He also visited the Mata, but did not ask for votes from the people present. He left in the helicopter.”
“For the last several days, he has been coming to visit Mata ji without a helicopter. Here, a tractor has also been given by him. But the independent candidate has not asked for votes,” he added.
