Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton expressed that while she believes US President Joe Biden would “certainly” win re-election against Donald Trump, she refrained from endorsing him. Addressing a group, Clinton humorously advised that any potential replacement should avoid seeking the nomination, suggesting Democrats should not touch the nomination with a “10-foot pole,” New York Post reported.
The ex-senator from New York told the influential Democratic attendees, who were eager for Biden to step aside for the 2024 race, that it wouldn’t be straightforward and “can’t force him out.” She said that only those closest to Biden could persuade him to step down, likening the situation to the difficulty of “taking keys away from older parents”.
Clinton was also quoted as saying “it was going to be very hard to convince.”
The former first lady questioned the logic behind pushing Biden out when a clearer path could for replacement exist for a campaign in 2028.
‘Why would you do that when you could have a clear shot to run your own campaign in 2028?’ she said.
The ex-first lady also touched upon political issues such as delegate commitments and campaign fund transfers, which would likely position Vice President Kamala Harris as the frontrunner if Biden were to leave the race.
Clinton also confirmed she has discussed Biden’s future with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and former President Barack Obama.
