GURGAON: The Income Tax department has set up a 185-member Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) to monitor and track the movement and uses of cash in the Haryana assembly election. The unit will work in coordination with the district election officers.
According to officials, to address the complaints received, the department has deployed teams of officers and officials in each district of Haryana.These teams, comprising 185 officers and officials, will closely collaborate with the District Control Room of the District Election Officer and other agencies at the district level. They will investigate the authenticity of the information received and take necessary action to seize cash or other valuables as per the law.
“The department closely monitors individuals, locations, and activities that may be associated with handling unreported cash during the election process. An Air Intelligence Unit operates at Chandigarh Airport, maintaining a strict watch on cash movements by air, including chartered flights. Cash movements through railways are also monitored,” said an official.
The Directorate of Investigation will also examine the affidavits of candidates declaring their assets and liabilities. If any suppression of information comes to notice, the same will be reported to the Election Commission (EC) in due course. Similarly, if any incriminating information relating to the election expenses by candidates is gathered, it will also be reported to the EC.
