Rajalakshmi Engineering College has partnered with Arizona State University to launch a master’s programme. In the two-year programme students will start their coursework in Chennai and complete the rest of the programme (12 to 18 months) in ASU.

Abhay Shankar Meghanathan, vice-chairman of the college said he was impressed with ASU’s ecosystem and their aim to cater to everyone. The institution has tied up with the university to launch executive programmes in technical subjects “that will be beneficial for IT firms and SME and MSME sectors,” he said.

The programmes planned are Master of Science in Software Engineering; Software Engineering (cyber security); Computer Science; and AI in business.

Chris Johnson, senior director and head of global partnership development, Arizona State University, said the aim was to invest in education so that solutions could be found to problems.

Consul General of the United States, Chennai, Chris Hodges, said research played an important role in higher education. “There is a lot of focus on student mobility. We talk about higher education on a global scale but it’s really important to emphasise and think about the importance of universities as drivers of research and innovation.”

He spoke of the possibility of faculty coming to India to do research as part of the partnership and the importance of industry and businesses taking forward the research and implementing them.
