Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the centenary year celebrations of Communist Party of India’s veteran leader, R. Nallakannu, and will release a book of poems about the veteran leader, written by 100 poets, on December 29 at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai.
Veteran Tamil nationalist leader Pazha Nedumaran will preside over the celebrations.
Speaking at the press meet, Mr. Nedumaran said, “Rajaji, Periyar, Thiruvika, Kamarajar, Anna Durai, Kalaignar, MGR, Jayalalithaa, Jeeva, P. Ramamurthi, Ma.Po.Si… have lived among us and have sacrificed their lives for the people. But none of them had the opportunity to celebrate their centenary year. However, Communist leaders Comrades N. Sankaraiah and R. Nallakannu have lived to be a hundred years old. We must be proud that we lived at the same time as them.”
He added, “Nallakannu has not only had good relationship with political leaders and was respected by them, but he also earned the goodwill and love of many, including social activists, educationists, scientists, Tamil scholars, journalists, and trade unionists. People from diverse fields will participate in the function.”
CPI general secretary D. Raja, social activist Medha Patkar, Justice K. Chandru, former Judge of the Madras High Court, VIT founder G. Viswanathan, former Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, VCK founder Thol. Thirumavalavan, educationist Vasanthi Devi, filmmaker Vetri Maaran, actor Vijay Sethupathi, ‘Nakkeran’ Gopal, Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi founder T. Velmurugan, CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan, and CPI(M) State secretary K. Balakrishnan will participate in the function. Mr. Nallakannu will deliver his acceptance speech.
The celebrations will be organised by the Dharmalingam Educational Charitable Trust.
