Former Union Minister and Congress senior leader Chinta Mohan on Friday (March 14) demanded that the government immediately fulfil its election promise of providing ₹20,000 each to farmer as annual financial aid.

Speaking to media persons after launching a protest in front of the MPDO office at Nagari, Mr. Mohan said it was unfair on the part of the Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA government not to keep its promise to the farmers even ten months after coming to power. It was the Congress that brought green revolution in the country and provided farmers with crop loans as well as subsidies on the purchase of fertilisers, he said, adding that the Naidu government should also look into reviving the scholarships to students in the state, besides addressing the grievances of the power loom workers in Nagari municipality.

He said the Congress-led UPA government authored a loan waiver to farmers to the tune of ₹75,000 crore in the country in 2004.

Mr. Mohan alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to address the pressing issues of agrarian crisis, unemployment and inflation in the country during his eleven years of rule heading the NDA government at the Centre.
