A 38-year-old dance choreographer was killed in a fire accident at his residence in Qutub Arcade Apartment in Puppalguda of Narsingi in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Porkati Veerkant Reddy, was found dead in his bedroom. According to the Narsingi police, the fire originated after a short circuit in the air conditioning unit at around 2.30 a.m.
At the time of the incident, other family members including Reddy’s elderly parents Porkathi Garpkash Reddy, 76 and Vijaya, 60, along with two children, Maunika, 14 and Nishant Reddy, 8, were in a separate room. Upon noticing smoke and flames, the family rushed to the kitchen and immediately contacted the emergency services.
Firefighters and police personnel arrived at the scene and doused the fire. Despite efforts by the medical team, including CPR administered at the scene, Veerkant was declared dead on the spot.
The fire caused extensive damage to the apartment, destroying furniture, clothing, and various household items. The body was later shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
A case was booked and further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
