KOLKATA: A CISF constable, shot himself from his service rifle – an INSAS – at Kolkata airport during the busy early morning hour on Thursday morning.
The constable identified as Sri Vishnu was admitted to a private hospital. His condition remains extremely critical.
Vishnu (25), a resident of Telangana, had joined the service in 2022.
On Thursday, Vishnu was on duty at the watch tower near gate no.5 of the airport when gunshots were heard at 5.19am. Colleagues and officials rushed to find him in a pool of blood and his rifle was found next to him. CISF and airport officials took him to the nearest Charnock Hospital.
“The man had a bullet injury under his chin and shots were fired from his rifle. We are checking if the shots were fired accidentally or it was suicidal in nature,” said a senior official of Bidhannagar city police.
