NAVI MUMBAI: Police have registered an FIR against 10-15 CISF jawans for allegedly assaulting a doctor, his brother, who is also the Kharghar unit Shiv Sena chief, and their friend in an alleged road rage incident on Friday.
According to the FIR, complainant Dr Srinath Parab (28) was returning to his Kharghar residence from Vashi in his SUV. He was accompanied by his brother Prasad, sister-in-law, 11-month-old niece, and friend Jayesh Visawe.
Around 10.15pm, one of the three buses ferrying CISF jawans from Mumbai airport to their staff quarters in Kharghar suddenly veered to the left and was about to graze his SUV plying along Utsav Chowk and Central Park in Kharghar Sector 12.
Dr Srinath said he intercepted the bus ahead and questioned the driver for his reckless driving.
An argument ensued and four jawans, including one identified only as Sanjeev, stepped out of the bus and confronted the doctor.
The verbal spat turned violent as the jawans allegedly rained blows on Visawe. When the brothers tried to rescue him, the jawans allegedly assaulted them too.
Prasad’s wife tried to intervene and was pushed, the complainant said, adding that some CISF jawans in other buses attempted to pacify the assailants, but they were reluctant and broke the rear windshield of the SUV. A video of the incident is being circulated on social media.
Passersby alerted police, who rushed to the spot. Kharghar police senior inspector Deepak Surve said, “CISF jawans were detained on the spot and the complainant and his kin were brought to police station, and an FIR was registered. However, the complainant claimed some of the CISF jawans, who were under the influence of alcohol, had escaped.”
The CISF jawans have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt and endangering the life of others by unlawful assembly and rioting.
On Saturday, a CISF personnel has also submitted a complaint application claiming that the doctor, his brother and the friend had accused their bus driver of reckless driving and used abusive language, which upset the jawans and led to the violent altercation, said Surve.
