Union Minister Hardeep Sing Puri on Saturday took a sharp dig at Congress saying that the latter’s classic shoot and scoot brand of social media policy is based on lies, fabricated figures and fake data is back in action.

The minister asserted that the BJP government stood for credibility of promises made to people under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the Congress for crisis of credibility, as the ruling party fired a fresh salvo at its rival in a war of words between them over unkept poll pledges.

He also accused the top brass of the grand old party of not checking the facts before going public with their delusional opinions.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, Puri said, “Under leadership of PM @narendramodiJi, India has witnessed significant employment growth over the years. Employment has increased by nearly 36%, adding around 170 million jobs between 2016-17 and 2022-23.”

“Let me also remind them that India’s economic trajectory demonstrates sustained job creation across key sectors. We are on our way to becoming the world’s 3rd largest economy very soon from the 11th spot their famed economists and policies left us in 2014,” he added.

He further emphasised that while providing direct and indirect employment opportunities to India’s youth, the country’s GDP grew at an average rate of over 6.5 percent during the same period.

“Indian labour market indicators show that the unemployment rate has declined to 3.2 percent in 2022-23. Agriculture remains dominant, employing over 45 percent of the workforce, with is a gradual shift toward manufacturing and services,” Puri said while highlight the improvement in employment sector.

“According to PLFS, youth (age 15-29 years) unemployment rate has declined from 17.8 percent in 2017-18 to 10 percent in 2022-23. EPFO has reached 131.5 lakh in 2024 while Gig Economy workforce is expected to grow to 2.35 crore by 2029-30,” he added.

“The combined market cap of 81 listed PSUs, including banks and insurance companies, has grown by 225% in the last three years, on the back of higher govt capex and better capital management. PSU dividends have gone up. Non tax revenue mobilisation is happening,” he added.

While emphasising improvement in terms of poverty and inflation, Puri said, “He (Kharge) will be disappointed to know that India’s inflation rate was 1.4 percentage points below the global average in 2023. Core services inflation is at a 9 year low in FY24. RBI expects 4.5% headline inflation in FY25 & 4.1% in FY26. While Congress regimes of the yore used ‘Garibi Hatao’ as a hollow slogan, Modi Govt is providing free food grains to about 81.35 crore beneficiaries for five years starting January 1, 2024 at a cost of ₹11.8 lakh crore under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). Congress continues to spew lies on GST on essential food items. They pretend to not know that specified goods like pulses, rice, flour, etc., when sold in loose form are fully exempt from GST & only attract a concessional GST of just 5% when in packaged & labelled form.”

Puri further slammed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for spitting out baseless and false facts. He said that while Kharge sees ‘stampedes’, he is unaware that the Worker Population Ratio has increased by almost 26 percent between 2017-2023. “He is clearly looking at all the wrong places and getting fake data, or maybe is just too preoccupied with trying to hold his imploding party together and buys whatever lies his advisors sell to him; or he is just too fixated with the ‘unemployment’ of his party’s travelling Shehzada,” he said.

Earlier today, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi took a dig at Kharge saying that the grand old party was making a mockery of its own by engaging in such rhetoric.

At a media briefing at BJP national headquarters, Trivedi questioned the consistency of Kharge’s remarks and suggested that his shifting comments only goes to reflect the internal confusion within the party.

The BJP leader said that Kharge’s comments inadvertently revealed that BJP governance is a boon for the country, while the Congress governance led to economic mismanagement and setbacks.

Taking a sharp dig, he said, “the party which was once shaped with Gandhian ideals has now transformed into Rahul Gandhi Congress.”

The latest war of words over poll promises between the BJP and the Congress broke out a day after PM Modi launched a fierce attack on the opposition party as he seized on Kharge’s comments that the Congress’ state units should make promises that were properly budgeted. Modi said on Friday that the Congress stood “badly exposed” in front of the people for promising them what the party knew it would never be able to deliver.

Hitting back, Kharge had said the BJP stood for “betrayal” and “jumla”, alleging that lies, deceit, fakery, loot and publicity were the five adjectives that best described the Modi government.
