NEW DELHI: Two passenger jets at Osaka’s Itami airport for domestic flights had a minor incident, on Thursday when their wing tips ‘scratched’ each other.
The incident, involving two All Nippon Airways (ANA) aircraft, occurred shortly after 10.00 am. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
A spokesperson for Kansai Airports, which operates Itami, told AFP, “We’ve been told wing tips of two ANA planes scratched each other.”
This comes after a series of aviation mishaps in Japan. Earlier this year, there was a near-catastrophic collision at Haneda airport between a Japan Airlines aircraft and a smaller coast guard plane. All 379 individuals aboard the JAL Airbus successfully evacuated moments before the plane became engulfed in flames. However, five out of the six occupants on the smaller aircraft did not survive.
In another incident, a Korean Air plane’s wing tip struck an empty Cathay Pacific airliner due to snowy conditions. Additionally, an ANA flight had to turn back after a crack was discovered on the cockpit window of a Boeing 737-800.
