The newly-constructed, spacious building of the Mysore City Corporation’s (MCC) Zone 3 Office at Sharadadevi Nagar is all set for inauguration on April 26 at 9:30 a.m. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will formally inaugurate the facility, which has been built at a cost of ₹6.5 crore.
The two-storied building stands on a 1.12-acre plot near New Kantharaj Urs Road, constructed on the CA-1 site along High Tension Road – Swami Vivekananda Road, close to the previous office location.
MCC established nine zonal offices in 2007-08 covering 65 wards to decentralise governance and streamline civic administration. Zone 3, one of the nine zones under the MCC, includes areas such as Sharadevi Nagar, Dattagalli, Nivedithanagar, Kuvempunagar, Bogadi, Ramakrishnanagar, K.G. Koppal, Saraswathipuram, T.K. Layout, and Vijayanagar 3rd Stage.
Until now, the Zone 3 office operated from a rented building near Sharadadevi Nagar Circle. Recognising the need for a dedicated office, MCC sought assistance from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which allotted a civic amenities (CA) site in 2021.
Speaking at a press conference held on Wednesday, MCC officials said the new facility will enhance administrative efficiency and public service delivery in Zone 3. They said the building is aesthetically designed with an imposing structure and attractive façade. It includes a ramp and lift for physically challenged individuals and senior citizens besides a garden with ornamental plants.
Drinking water facilities and dedicated restrooms, including a separate restroom for pourakarmikas are among the facilities.
“Koosina mane” Child Care Centre is perhaps a first-of-its-kind facility among zonal offices, offering a safe space for children accompanying women visiting the office for services like birth certificates.
The building houses key departments including Revenue, Health, Engineering, and Computer sections and a spacious room for safe document storage. It has a conference hall with a seating capacity of 60 persons for official meetings and events. The building will house all 150 Zone 3 staff members, they said.
