NEW DELHI: The biting cold and dense fog continued to wreak havoc across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar on Sunday, disrupting transportation services and leaving commuters grappling with the harsh weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the minimum temperature in Delhi plummeted to 10°C, with expectations that the maximum temperature would not surpass 21°C.This unrelenting cold wave has led to the delay of numerous flights and trains, creating significant challenges for travelers.
At the Indira Gandhi International Airport, a number of flights were delayed due to adverse weather conditions on Sunday. Similarly, trains experienced delays at the New Delhi Railway Station owing to the thick blanket of fog enveloping the region.
IMD data revealed that the minimum temperature in the national capital is currently below the normal average for this season. On Saturday, the minimum temperature recorded was 4.3°C, marking a departure of -4°C from the normal average.
“Very dense” fog conditions were reported over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with “dense fog” over Tripura at 5:30 am on Sunday, according to the IMD. Visibility was severely affected in various locations, with Varanasi (Babatpur) and Purnea reporting 25 meters each, and Bahraich, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Sultanpur, and Kailashahar reporting 50 meters each. Patna recorded visibility at 200 meters.
Despite the challenging weather, devotees showed resilience by gathering at Rampath for the darshan of Ram Lalla at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya early Sunday morning. Devotees also thronged the Hanumangarhi Temple in Ayodhya, braving the early morning cold for their religious observances.
