BAREILLY: In a flare-up of communal tension ahead of the polls in UP’s Budaun, a salon owner, Mohd Sajid, 22, is alleged to have slit the throats of his neighbour Vinod Thakur‘s minor sons over a suspected monetary dispute late on Tuesday evening.
As word of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered and set shops in the area ablaze. The mob also caught hold of Sajid and handed him over to cops who claimed later in the night that he had tried to run away and was killed in an encounter. Sajid’s brother Javed, who is alleged to have assisted him in the murders, is on the run.
Sajid is alleged to have gone to Thakur’s house, asking him for money for medical treatment of his pregnant wife. Thakur was not at home but asked his wife, Sangeeta, who runs a cosmetic shop and beauty parlour from her house, to give him Rs 5,000, which she paid him.

In the meantime, Sajid is alleged to have taken the couple’s two sons, Ayush Pratap (13) and Ahaan Pratap, (6), to the roof and slit their throats. The third son, Piyush, 9, was also attacked but survived with minor injuries.
“I was downstairs when he took my brothers to the roof. While coming down, he also attacked me, but I managed to escape,” Piyush recounted. The children’s inconsolable mother said, “ I had no enmity with anyone and I don’t know why my sons were killed by Sajid. Only his brother Javed can tell the truth.” Meanwhile, police found during investigation that Sajid’s wife was not pregnant, as he had claimed, and had been staying at her maternal house in the Binawar area for the past 15 days.SSP Alok Priyadarshi said that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Javed.
Talking to TOI, he said, “Sajid and his brother Javed, residents of Alapur, murdered the two minor siblings. The mob initially caught Sajid but he managed to escape before police could arrest him.” SSP further added, “Our search team found him hiding in a forest area. When asked to surrender, he opened fire. He was injured in retaliatory firing and thereafter taken to hospital, where he died during treatment. Heavy force has been deployed in the area. The city is on alert mode and IG Bareilly zone, Rakesh Singh, is personally monitoring the law and order situation.”
