Fresh out of his Oscar win, Cillian Murphy is confirmed to make his return as Tommy Shelby in the upcoming ‘Peaky Blinders‘ film.
Steven Knight, the creator of the British srime series, revealed the exciting news during the premiere of his latest BBC drama ‘The Town’. While speaking to Birmingham World, he assured fans that Murphy’s return was certain.
“He definitely is returning for it,” he said and revealed that the film is expected to begin shooting this September in Digbeth.
Murphy’s reprisal of his role as Tommy Shelby comes as no surprise to dedicated followers of the series. The actor himself has expressed keen interest in revisiting the character, provided the script lived up to expectations.
In an interview with Rolling Stone U.K. last year, Murphy remarked, “If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it.”
Murphy, during his golden streak at the award shows for ‘Oppenheimer’, expressed his desire to return to the franchise. He said to the Irish Star, “I have always said that if Steve Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver because he is such a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there.”
The news of Murphy’s return comes following the conclusion of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ series finale in April 2022. With filming for the movie set to commence in September, anticipation is running high among fans eager to see Tommy Shelby’s next chapter unfold on the big screen.
It must be known that while the series became a hit on streaming platforms, the show and its actors, including Cillain were snubbed at all major awards shows. It is one of the few shows that has not won an Emmy or Golden Globe award in the television category.
