Congress on Tuesday found itself allaying, yet again, SP’s concerns that it would open a line of communication with BSP chief Mayawati and rope her into the INDIA bloc. SP lead-er Ram Gopal Yadav is learnt to have emphasised BSP’s “unre-liability”, referring to Mayaw-ati’s unilateral announcement of the end of the tie-up between BSP and SP in 2019.
SP sources said that they have asked Congress to come up with a “practical and realistic” assessment of seats it would like to contest in UP, consider-ing that the party was reduced to one seat (Rae Bareli) in the 2019 polls. Meanwhile, Congress’ national alliance committee has sought time from SP till January 12 to finalise the seat-sharing.
