NEW DELHI: Nitish Kumar‘s party the Janata Dal (United) is miffed with the Congress over the delay in finalising the blueprint of INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance)bloc for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“The Congress is worried about its own party, while we are concerned for the INDIA bloc,” senior JD(U) leader KC Tyagi said on Monday in a swipe at the grand old party.
The JD(U) leader also had a stern message for the Congress over seat-sharing, especially in states like Bihar which are ruled by regional parties.
“In Congress-ruled states and where Congress is strong or the big party they can demand more seats. However, if Congress demands seats not in proportion to its strength in non-Congress and non-BJP ruled states it will be impractical,” KC Tyagi said.
His party colleague and MLA Gopal Mandal was more blunt in his remarks on the grand old party.
“Even if we give 40 seats of Bihar to Congress, will they be able to win? The Congress will not be able to win a single seat in Bhagalpur. Congress may be the biggest party in the country but not in Bihar. Here JD(U) and the RJD are the bigger parties,” he said.
In fact, Mandal wants that Nitish Kumar be announced the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition bloc.
“The next Prime Minister should be Nitish Kumar. He travelled across the country and created the INDIA bloc. No one is capable of becoming the PM other than Nitish Kumar. Kharge? I don’t even know his name. No one knows him; everyone knows who Nitish Kumar is,” the JD-U MLA said.
The Congress dilly-dallying over announcing the convener of INDIA bloc has not gone down well with the JD(U).
“Nitish Kumar is the founder-member of INDIA bloc. For us that is way more important than the post of convener,” KC Tyagi said. “The pace at which the BJP has moved ahead for the 2024 elections worries us. We have neither sorted organisational issues nor have we finalised seat-sharing arrangement,” he added.
Lalu Prasad’s RJD also endorsed JD(U)’s concerns over slow pace of developments in INDIA bloc.
“Every party wants things to move at a quick pace … it is wrong to say that JD(U) is angry. The JDU’s‘s concerns are also our concern and the concern of every INDIA bloc member,” RJD MP Manoj Jha said.
