Seth, who is the CEO of a start-up company in Bengaluru, was arrested on Monday for murdering her at a hotel in Goa. She was caught in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district while trying to flee in a cab with her son’s body stuffed in a bag.
Body found under clothes: Cab driver
When confronted by police, Seth herself opened the bag which contained her son’s body beneath clothes, said the cab driver.
Rayjohn D’Souza was driving the tourist taxi in which Suchana was ferrying the body. Describing the events which led to the arrest of the AI expert, D’Souza said he received a call from Calangute police around 10.30am on Monday while he was heading to Bengaluru.
D’Souza stopped at a restaurant under the pretext of using the toilet. “A watchman directed me to a police station that lay 500 metres ahead,” he said. “I found a constable outside the station and I gave him my phone. The constable spoke to the Calangute police inspector and then the local police inspector got involved.”
Suchana remained in the car and even asked D’Souza why they had stopped at a police station. “Shortly thereafter, the local PI told her to open the bag,” D’Souza said. She was taken into custody when the body was found.
Initial probe has revealed that after smothering her son to death , the 39-year-old tried to commit suicide by cutting her left wrist with a sharp object.
“The blood stains that were found on a towel in the service apartment were due to the slashing of her wrist,” a senior police official said.
The motive behind the gruesome murder of the child has not be ascertained but Seth told the police she and her husband were estranged and that their divorce proceedings were currently underway.
After killing her son, Seth stuffed her son’s body in a bag and left for Bengaluru in a taxi on Monday. The murder came to light when the apartment’s house-keeping staff went to clean the room in which she stayed and found blood stains on the towel.
The service apartment management informed the Calangute police. A police inspector spoke over the phone to the taxi driver, who was on way to Bengaluru and had reached Chitradurga district in Karnataka, to take the accused to the nearest police station.
Seth has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence), and also under the Goa Children’s Act, said an official.
