KRISHNAGIRI: A couple and their son died after their motorcycle fell into a roadside pit near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as N Nagaraj, 40, of Mayanakanapalli, his wife Rathinamma, 39, and their son Naveen, 10.
The accident happened when thy were returning home from Thally. When they neared Sathiya Gopalapura village on the Thally-Kedukepathpalli Road, Nagaraj lost control of the motorcycle, according to an official at the Denkanikottai police station.
The motorcycle hit a parapet and fell into a 50-foot-deep pit. The trio, who suffered head injuries, died on the spot.
The police recovered the bodies and the motorcycle from the pit. The bodies were sent to the government hospital in Denkanikottai for postmortem.
Initial investigations indicated that the son had been sitting on the petrol tank of the tank. This might have affected Nagaraj’s ability to control the motorcycle effectively, police said.
A case was registered.
