A Telangana court on Friday asked minister Konda Surekha to take down her social media posts linking BRS working president KT Rama Rao to the divorce of actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya.

The court’s order came while it was hearing the Rs 100 defamation petition filed by KT Rama Rao against the Telangana minister.

Surekha, Telangana’s Minister for Forest and Environment, stoked a massive controversy earlier this month when she alleged that KT Rama Rao was the reason behind Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s divorce in 2021.

What Was The Controversy?

Surekha claimed that KTR, a former minister, was behind the divorce of Samantha Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. She further accused the BRS leader of tapping the phones of actresses and blackmailing them.

“It is KT Rama Rao because of whom (actress) Samantha’s divorce happened… He was a minister at that time and used to tap the phones of the actresses and then find their weaknesses to blackmail them… He used to make them drug addicts and then do this… Everyone knows this, Samantha, Naga Chaitanya, his family — everybody is aware that such a thing happened,” she had said.

Following Surekha’s accusations, both the actors released separate statements, and termed the state minister’s remarks “absolutely ridiculous”. The actors also asked the minister to be “responsible and respectful of individuals’ privacy”.

In response to the allegations, Chaitanya’s father and Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna also filed a defamation case against Surekha, stating that the minister’s remarks damaged his family’s reputation.

Telangana Minister Takes Back Samantha-Naga Divorce Remarks

On witnessing massive backlash for her remarks, Surekha apologised to the actors and their families for her statement and said, “It was an unexpected slip of the tongue.”

“I have no personal agenda against anyone. I made an off-the-cuff remark. It was a slip of the tongue. I am disheartened to see the sharp reactions to my statement. I am taking back my words regarding what I said about the film industry,” the minister said.
