YAMUNANAGAR: The police have registered a case of dacoity after six men robbed a family of about Rs 12.75 lakh worth jewellery and cash, on knife point in Jagadhri city of Yamunanagar district.
On the complaint of Fajrul Haq of Green Vihar Colony in Jagadhri city, the police have registered a case against six unknown persons under Section 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Jagadhri City police station on Wednesday.
Fajrul told the police that he works as a contractor of press machines in a plyboard factory at Jagadhri and he also takes care of Jama Masjid on Buria road in the city.
He said that his home’s doors were old, therefore, repair work was ongoing for the last 15 days. He said there was no latch or lock on the main entrance door of his home and it was closed with support of a chair.
“At about 3.30 am today (Wednesday), I heard sound of the main entrance door opening and the chair being removed. I got up and saw six men in the lobby. Of them, two men suddenly entered the room in which my daughters were sleeping and four men entered my room forcibly”, said Farjul.
He said all the men had knives in their hands, one of them pointed the knife at his neck and the other at his wife’s neck.
“The robbers took away Rs 8.50 lakh cash after breaking the locks of the safe and about 100 gram of gold jewellery. Before fleeing, the robbers tied both of my hands. They also assaulted me and my wife when we resisted them. I was freed by my wife when they fled. We went to another room to see our daughters, whose mouths were also taped by the robbers. While fleeing the accused persons threatened us of dire consequences, if we complained to the police. They also took away my mobile phone along with my SIM card”, said Farjul.
Jagadhri city police station house officer (SHO) inspector Narender Singh said, “We are investigating the case and four to five teams are working to trace the accused robbers. We have spotted six men with the help of CCTV cameras in the area. There is some negligence on part of the complainant also as there were no safety locks or latches at his home due to ongoing construction work while they should have installed the locks. The complainant along with his family was targeted by robbers easily by entering his property when they were in sleep.”
