Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday (January 18, 2025) participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj. He offered prayers and performed a Ganga Aarti.
Mr. Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi and other party leaders. The Defence Minister began his visit with a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam – confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythological Saraswati. He also performed rituals at neighbouring holy sites such as Akshaya Vat, Patalpuri Temple, Saraswati Kund, and Hanuman Temple.
‘Fulfilling experience’
Calling the Maha Kumbh a festival of spiritual experience of Sanatan Dharma, Mr. Singh described the experience as fulfilling. “I feel very fulfilled by coming to the Maha Kumbh of Prayagraj and taking a dip in the Sangam. I believe that this is a festival of spiritual experience of Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma, which is based on ancient Vedic astronomical calculations,” he said.
The Defence Minister added, “People from all castes, creeds and many countries come here with a sense of unity. I believe that this is the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati along with the spirituality and scientific nature of Sanatan Dharma and also, social harmony. Prime Minister Modi has said that the message of Maha Kumbh is that India will remain united.”
Heaping praises on U.P. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Defence Minister said, “The manner in which our Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shriman Yogi Adityanath Ji skilfully organised this eternal spiritual and the world’s largest public gathering, he deserves praise and congratulations for it.”
