Day before voting in Delhi, the capital police has registered a case against the nephew of BJP’s Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri and AAP candidate-chief minister Atishi. Both the cases were filed in Kalkaji assembly constituency.

According to the case details, AAP leader Atishi and her supporters have been booked in two separate cases in Kalkaji assembly constituency for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

In the first case, Atishi is said to have arrived at Fateh Singh Marg with 50-60 supporters in 10 cars. The second case has been registered against Atishi’s supporters for obstructing government work and attacking police personnel.

According to reports, AAP members Ashmit and Sagar Mehta allegedly obstructed and assaulted head constable Kaushal Pal while he was recording a gathering at Govindpuri. Videos doing rounds on social media showed the AAP workers slapping the officer.

Atishi alleged that BJP workers were threatening residents in JJ Camp, Girinagar area.

Taking to X, the AAP leader claimed that the Delhi police “illegally took in custody two people who were reporting and making a video of MCC violations.” She further alleged that no action was taken against those for flouting MCC.

Meanwhile, Delhi police has registered a case against Manish Bidhuri and Ravi Dayama for violating the MCC during the silence period.

According to Atishi, who filed the complaint, Manish Bidhuri was present with outsiders in Kalkaji despite restrictions on external interference before elections.

Though police have filed a case under Section 126 of Representation of People’s Act, some reports stated that the vehicle linked to Bidhuri’s family was checked by cops in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, but no violations were found.

What is silence period? The 48-hour period before voting is when all campaign activities should cease. No external interference is allowed.

Kalkaji is a high-stakes constituency, with Atishi contesting against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’ Alka Lamba.

The voting for Delhi assembly election will be held on Wednesday, February 5, and results will be announced on Saturday.
