Delhi HC has rejected a plea by Jaideep Singh Sengar, brother of expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, to suspend his 10-year prison sentence in connection with the death of father of the 2018 Unnao rape victim, during pendency of his appeal. Kuldeep and Jaideep, along with 5 others, were convicted in the case by a Delhi court in March 2020. HC declined relief on grounds of his period of custody, severity of offence and public confidence in the judiciary.CBI had opposed Jaideep’s plea for relief, highlighting that he had served only about 30% of his ten-year sentence.
