The Opposition has flagged the edited social media post by Delhi L-G VK Saxena who initially acknowledged the deaths in the New Delhi Railway Station stampede incident but later changed it to an “unfortunate” incident.
The Aam Aadmi Party has taken on the L-G over the changed version of his tweet and omitting words such as “tragic loss of lives and injuries” and “disorder and stampede”.
This comes after 18 people, including children, died in the stampede and several others were injured.
Initially, when the Delhi Police and Railways denied any casualties in the mishap, L-G Saxena was amongst the first officials to post on X about the incident in which he said that there have been “tragic loss of lives” due to “disorder and stampede”. However, minutes later, he edited the tweet and removed the mention of deaths and also toned down the language to describe the incident as “unfortunate”.
The AAP dubbed the edited version of tweet as an attempt to evade responsibility by downplaying the mishap.
“This is Delhi’s LG, VK Saxena, appointed by the central government. The BJP-led central government and he himself are responsible for the safety of millions of people in Delhi. How skilled he is at evading his responsibilities is evident from this tweet of his. After the tragic incident at New Delhi Railway Station, he initially acknowledged in his tweet that there was a stampede and that passengers had died. However, to protect his superiors, he later edited his tweet and removed any mention of passenger deaths. More than 15 people lost their lives, yet the central government and the LG are not only refusing to express grief but are not even acknowledging the incident. There can be no more shameful example of their failure than this,” the AAP posted on X.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also shared the screenshots of the original and edited tweets and posts from the railway officials and flagged the coordination between them.
The stampede occurred at around 10 pm on Saturday after hundreds of passengers flooded the platforms 12, 13, and 14. Several of them were attempting to board the train to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh.
As many as 11 women and children were among the 18 people who lost their lives in the tragic incident. 15 other passengers were injured and they were shifted to the LNJP Hospital.
The Railways has formed a committee to probe the incident.
