Delhi has been won but the BJP and its biggest face, Narendra Modi, are in no mood to relax. The prime minister will visit three poll-bound states this month for big programmes, which are also seen as a launch of the BJP’s election campaign in the states of Bihar, Assam, and Tamil Nadu.

The BJP is making big preparations for the prime minister’s visit to Bhagalpur in eastern Bihar on February 24, and on Assam the same day. Bihar goes to polls in October-November this year, while Assam elections are a year away. Later this month, probably on February 28, PM Modi is expected to visit Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu to inaugurate the new Pamban bridge that will connect the island town of Rameshwaram with the mainland.

BJP leaders in both Bihar and Assam are calling the prime minister’s visit a launch of the party’s election campaign and are aggressively pushing for record numbers in the audience when PM holds public meetings during his visits. The BJP is in power in Assam for the last decade and is also in power in Bihar along with Nitish Kumar. The Bihar chief minister will be sharing the stage with the PM in Bhagalpur on February 24 along with senior BJP leaders.

The PM’s visit to this eastern Bihar town is significant as this is a region where the BJP is seen as traditionally weak. The PM will be releasing the next instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi from Bhagalpur to also woo farmers of this region which form the bulk of the electorate. Modi will also honour some of these farmers as well as lay the foundation stone of a new central university in Bhagalpur.

From Bhagalpur, the prime minister will proceed to Assam for a two-day visit where he will inaugurate the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ investment summit which aims at a Rs 3 lakh crore investment in the state. He will also address a public gathering in the Sarusjai stadium. There will be a mega Jhumar dance performance by over 8,000 artisans on the occasion. The Assam BJP is hoping for a major push from the PM ahead of elections in the state in 2026.
